About the event
It doesn’t take very long as a counselor to come across a client who doesn’t seem to respond to treatment as well or as quickly as the majority. Often these clients have been through multiple treatment plans and service providers unsuccessfully and have fallen deeper and deeper into despair. It has been estimated that approximately 75% of the individuals in this situation have an undiagnosed dissociative disorder. The knowledge of dissociation, its presenting symptoms, and effective treatment modalities for working with dissociative clients can be crucial when working with severely traumatized individuals such as first responders, veterans, and those who have encountered complex trauma as a child.
During this 8-hour class, we will discuss the various dissociative disorders that often go unrecognized with clients. We will cover:
· ethical considerations when working with dissociative clients
· how dissociation develops
· how to identify dissociative clients
· how to diagnose dissociative disorders
· some of the most effective interventions for treating dissociation
· the neuroscience behind stabilization
(NOTE: up to 8 CEs are available. You must attend Day One to attend Day Two.)
